GOLDEN ISLES DESCRIPTIONS

TOUR JEKYLL ISLAND, GA

In 1886 a group of America’s wealthiest families purchased Jekyll Island and developed it into a private resort. A 1904 edition of “Munsey’s Magazine” referred to Jekyll Island Club as the “richest, most exclusive, the most inaccessible club in the world”. For 55 years families such as the Rockefellers, Morgans, Macys and Vanderbilts enjoyed the beauty and seclusion of Jekyll Island. Today you will board a tram and peek into the privileged lives of an exclusive group and a bygone era. The tour includes admission into one to two of the homes.

TOUR ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA

St. Simons Island, largest of “The Golden Isles”, continues to reveal the remarkable beauty and fascinating history of what 16th-century Spanish explorers called San Simeon. The tour includes 400 years of island history and folklore, Bloody Marsh, site of the famous battle where the fate of the southern colonies was decided, The Lighthouse, one of the only three working lighthouses in Georgia, Fort Frederica, the colonial town and fort settled by General James Oglethorpe, Retreat Plantation where relics from the slavery era still exist and a walking tour of Christ Church, the island’s most famous landmark.

SEA ISLAND, GA

Though connected to St. Simons Island and the mainland by a span of bridges and a causeway, Sea Island remains a world apart.  Heralded since its establishment in 1928 by auto magnate Howard Coffin, this lush resort and residential paradise offers a taste of the very best of resorting life as well as a wide span of magnificent homes along one of the most beautiful streets in America.
